OAC JUNIOR TENNIS: A GREAT TRADITION CONTINUES

It has been an amazing year for alumni of junior tennis programs at the OAC. Jesse Levine, after winning the junior Wimbledon doubles title, this year qualified for the main draw and won a round. He seems poised to enter the top 100 in the world in the near future.

This tradition of high achievement is being carried forward today by many up-and-coming players, including Elianne Douglas-Miron. She began her tennis training at the OAC six years ago, and, working steadily with lead coach Daniele Longo, has developed an impressively complete set of skills. 2007 proved a breakthrough year, as Elianne began to play successfully at national and international levels, competing, at the age of 13, with players in the U16 and U18 categories. She finished 7th at the indoor U16 nationals, and was a doubles finalist. As a result of her superlative play and well-rounded skills, Elianne has accepted an invitation to join the National Training Centre (NTC) Program in Montreal. She will be one of just 10 players, ages 13-17, living and training full-time at the Jarry Park Centre.

Varsity Stars:

The OAC and Noble Tennis School are saying ‘keep up the good work!’ to Matthew Sherman, slated to become the first ever sophomore student to be named team captain at the University of Dayton, Ohio, where he is attending on a tennis scholarship. The qualities of enthusiasm and intelligence that Matthew has shown this summer as a teacher and hitting partner make it clear why he is experiencing so much success.

We also say 'good luck!' to Jennifer Williams, one of our great junior instructors, now heading to Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario. We hope she will be back next spring to play and teach here once again, and we extend the same good wishes to Elisabeth Fournier, heading to Washington State University on a full tennis scholarship after many years of play at the OAC.
