RED CROSS SWIM@CAMP

Program Overview

1) Red Cross Swim@Camp is a fun, participation-based program, which offers swimming skills and water safety training to school-aged children.

2) Red Cross Swim@Camp teaches children to swim or reinforces previous swim lessons. Red Cross recommends parents enroll their kids in Red Cross Swimming and Water Safety lessons and look at Red Cross Swim@Camp as an opportunity to practice swimming while at school and reinforce water safety behaviours.

3) Uniquely developed from the proven Canadian Red Cross Swim Kids program.

4) Participants are encouraged to achieve their personal best. They receive a record of skills they have tried and recognition for their participation. Students will enjoy swimming with their friends, rather than worrying about which level they are in.

Red Cross Swim@Camp Modules

1) Swimming: Students get comfortable in the water, learn proper breathing techniques, float on their front and back, glide, scull, and learn front and back crawl. Stronger swimmers learn whip kick, backstroke, endurance and more.

2) Skills and Safety: These are the skills even strong swimmers need to know to stay safe in the water. Students will have hands-on practice as they conduct simulated ice rescues, learn why people stop breathing, and how to help. They experience a boat capsize and learn what to do, swim with their clothes and a lifejacket on, learn how to throw an assist to someone in the water, and more.

3) Fitness: Fitness activities are designed to be fun and promote lifelong aquatic skills. Instructors will motivate swimmers to achieve their personal best by individual improvement, encourage swimmers to increase their distance or swim faster, and teach the importance of warming up and cooling down.

4) Water Safety Education - Brain Games: A dry-land module for water safety education, including games and activities to challenge participants. They learn safety lessons in, on and around the water that will last a lifetime.
